The Birth of CE on the Beach

Before diving into marketing strategies, Minal shared the fascinating story behind CE on the Beach. What started as a spontaneous idea—simply posting beach photos while visiting family in St. Thomas—quickly turned into a high-demand event. CE on the Beach is now a premier dental CE event, taking place in beautiful destinations like the Cayman Islands. This story serves as a powerful reminder that the best business ideas often stem from simply listening to what people want.

Marketing and Social Media in a Changing Digital Landscape

During our conversation, Minal highlighted some major shifts happening in the digital world. From the rise and fall of TikTok to changes in Meta’s fact-checking policies, dental practices must stay ahead of the curve. But where should a practice begin? Here are some of her expert recommendations:

1. You Don’t Have to Share Personal Content

Many dentists and practice managers worry about social media because they don’t want to share personal details. Minal reassured us that it’s completely fine to focus on business-related content. Share updates about your practice, introduce your team, highlight patient success stories (with consent), and educate your audience about dental health. There’s no need to get overly personal if you’re not comfortable with it.

2. Building Authority Through Testimonials

One of the biggest takeaways from the interview with Minal was the importance of testimonials. In today’s digital landscape, authority isn’t just about credentials; it’s about social proof. Patients want to see real stories from real people. Here’s how you can easily start collecting testimonials:

  • Identify your most loyal and happy patients.
  • Give them a heads-up before their appointment, letting them know you’d love to record a short video.
  • Keep it simple—ask three easy questions, such as:
    • What was the best part of your appointment today?
    • Why did you choose our practice?
    • What would you tell someone looking for a dentist?
  • Make it fun and casual so the patient feels comfortable.

3. Choosing the Right Social Media Platform

Not all platforms are created equal, and not every dental practice needs to be on every social media site. Minal provided excellent guidance on how to choose the right platform:

  • Facebook is ideal for reaching baby boomers who are highly active on the platform.
  • Instagram is great for connecting with millennials and Gen Xers, especially young families.
  • TikTok is a fantastic option if your practice enjoys making fun, engaging videos and wants to attract Gen Z patients.

If social media isn’t your thing, don’t worry—other marketing avenues like direct mail and postcards can still be incredibly effective. It’s all about finding the right strategy for your specific practice.

Actionable Marketing Strategies for Dental Practices

Beyond social media, Minal emphasized the importance of having a well-rounded marketing strategy. Here are some additional tips she shared:

  • Consistency is key: Whether it’s social media, email marketing, or community outreach, showing up regularly builds trust.
  • Focus on education: Patients appreciate informative content. Create blog posts, social media updates, and videos that explain common dental concerns.
  • Leverage video content: Video is more engaging than static posts. Even simple “behind-the-scenes” clips can create a stronger connection with your audience.

Minal’s marketing and social media tips are invaluable for any dental practice looking to grow. Whether you’re just starting out or refining your current strategy, her insights emphasize the power of listening to your audience, leveraging testimonials, and choosing the right platforms.
