Hey dental hygienists . . . you have a very short amount of time to get a lot done during your patient’s recare visit, so let’s talk about some shortcuts to make your day run more smoothly. Today, I want to talk specifically about the Dentrix perio chart and give you some keyboard shortcuts that will significantly improve your efficiency.
Whenever you hire me to come into your practice and work side by side with you and your team, the first thing I will want to do is perform a remote assessment so I can look around at your software. I want to see what you are using, what you are not using and how your team is working the systems. Well, I was doing an assessment of a practice in the Atlanta area and I could not find a perio chart anywhere in the system so I assumed they were still using paper for documenting this important diagnostic data.
When I got to the office, the team informed me that they rarely have time to do perio charting so they usually skip it. I was shocked, but not surprised. It seems like skipping this important diagnostic part of the recare visit is more common than I had realized and that is why I am creating a lot more content around the recare visit.
There are several keyboard shortcuts in the Dentrix perio chart module that I want to share with you. Just use your keyboard keys below to trigger the action you want.
- B = bleeding
- > or < = move the script forward or backward one site. For example, you can use the B on the keyboard with the > key to highlight a lot of bleeding points throughout the mouth.
- S = suppuration (or pus) … ewe!
- F = furcation grade, then select the number for the grade
- P = plaque, then it will give you a dropdown for the grade
- M = mobility, then it will give you a dropdown for the grade
- L = bone loss, then it will give you a dropdown for the grade
